Deacon Place Upscale Student Apartments – November 2016

Deacon Place is an upscale student apartment complex near Wake Forest University

This private, upscale, student apartment project is only a five minute walk to Wake Forest University. It consists of 82 units in eleven buildings with a total of 328 bedrooms. Some of the units are townhomes designed with four bedrooms/four baths upstairs plus a living room, kitchen/dining, laundry and powder room on the ground floor. The two-story clubhouse houses the mail kiosk, offices, fitness spaces, meeting areas and a model unit for prospective residents to tour.

Outdoor amenities include a putting green, pickle ball court, pool, outdoor grills and a fire pit. There is plenty of green space with walking paths, gazebos and gathering spaces near each building to encourage social interaction. Also, Deacon Place is a safe community with controlled access at both entrances plus call stations placed throughout the grounds for extra security.

The developers and their design team worked closely with WFU Housing officials so that Deacon Place looks and feels like an extension of the campus. Design details including using “Deacon Blend” brick, arched entrances and windows similar to those on campus contribute to the feel of being on campus.

Deacon Place will be available for occupancy late July 2017

WEAVERCOOKE was hired well before the plans were complete so that the design could be fine tuned to match their target budget. Given the nature of student housing, hard deadlines and a “can’t miss” schedule were developed by the team which include several design-assist subcontractors. The clubhouse will be finished in March ’17 and all units will be available for occupancy in late July ‘17.

Construction began in June ’16 and as of November 29th, all eleven buildings are framed in and much of the site is paved to allow crews to stage materials and work thru the winter in all conditions. WEAVERCOOKE is using the latest BIM technology along with LEAN Construction techniques to build the project in the most efficient and environmentally friendly way.
